Shunzi (February 12, 1973 -), whose real name is Ni Chunlian, is a Chinese-American female singer. In 1997, she became popular in the music scene with her song "Going Home" and was known as the "Queen of Songwriting" and "Queen of Soul Singing".
Shunzi was born in a musical family in Beijing. His mother, Huang Ailian, is a famous Chinese pianist, and his father is a clarinet player. Sister Ni Qingqing was the former editor-in-chief of the New York Times Chinese website and the first Chinese to win the Pulitzer Prize for Journalism. In 1979, his parents divorced and he moved to San Francisco, USA with his mother and sister. In July 2012, Shunzi dated her American boyfriend Jaime, and their marriage was registered in Beijing more than two months later.
Shunzi was influenced by her mother and studied classical piano since she was a child. Growing up in the United States, Shunzi was also deeply influenced by black music such as rhythm and blues and jazz. Shunzi studied at Hunter Campus of the City University of New York in the United States, the Swiss Jazz Institute in Bern, Switzerland, and studied music production at the School of Jazz and Contemporary Music in Lausanne, Switzerland.
