Influenced by his family, he loved Peking Opera music since childhood. In 1953, he studied martial arts under the famous drummer Zou Zihou, and later switched to studying Peking Opera under the guidance of his father, the famous drummer Ge Suizhi. In 1960, upon Wang Benzhen's suggestion, he formally studied under the famous luthier Mr. Li Muliang. In the same year, he entered the student class of the China Peking Opera Theater with excellent results and was examined by Liu Jidian. After graduation, he was assigned to work in the first troupe of the China Peking Opera Company.

After graduation, he participated in the filming of the Peking Opera film "Wild Boar Forest" and later performed in "Red Lantern" and "Plain War"; during this period, the crew of the Shandong Province Peking Opera Troupe "Assault on the White Tiger Troupe" went to Beijing and merged into China Peking Opera Company, he was seconded to the theater crew to participate in the performance and received good reviews. After the restoration of traditional opera, he performed the piano accompaniment for Yuan Shihai, Feng Zhixiao and others in plays such as "Niu Gao Recruiting a Marriage", "Four Jinshi" and "Huaihe Camp".
