Due to different regions, Lu Opera in Anhui has formed three schools: upper, middle and lower. Since its popular area was in the ancient Luzhou area in central Anhui, in March 1955, with the approval of the Propaganda Department of the Anhui Provincial Party Committee, the "Falling Seven Opera" was officially renamed "Lu Opera". The traditional repertoire of Lu Opera is divided into three categories: coloratura opera, mixed opera and original opera. The main content of coloratura plays is to reflect the life interests and love of the working people. There are also some satirical comedies and farces, such as "Selling Yarn", "Freeing Parrots", "Up the Bamboo Mountain", "Borrowing Wife", "Criticizing Chicken", etc. In addition, there are some improvised plays that reflect the people's struggle life in the late Qing Dynasty, such as "The Smoking Lantern" which exposes the ugly behavior of opium ghosts, and "Going to Guangdong" which reflects the peasants' defection to the Taiping Army. Most of the operas are "drama guts" (independent and exciting parts) extracted from the play, such as "Pounding the Pine" in "Sister Zhang in Tokyo", "Crossing the Curtain" and "The Story of the Blue Shirt" in "Butterfly Lovers" "Zhang Taihe Divorced His Wife" in "The Story of Three Yuan", "Godson" in "San Yuan Ji", etc. Although some of them come from Hui Opera, Peking Opera or other opera types, through Lu Opera artists performing in rural areas for a long time, the characters, emotions, and language of the characters in the plays are reshaped, enriched, and deepened from the perspective of the main audience, farmers. Therefore, it has a strong flavor of life and local characteristics. This play mainly focuses on family joys and sorrows, love, and public cases. Except for "The Story of the Wood Ax", "The Story of the Handkerchief", "The Drought", "The God of the River", etc. which are unique to this type of play, most of them are transplanted and adapted from Ming and Qing legends, drums, etc. Ci and other dramas, such as "Colorful Pavilion", "Pipa Story", "Herbal Tea Story", "Meng Jiangnu", "Tianbao Tu", etc.
