Li Pipa, one of the top ten young pipa performers, started learning pipa at the age of 10 from his father, Professor Li Guanghua of the Central Conservatory of Music. He also studied under Professor Fan Wei and Professor Zhang Qiang successively.

Li Pipa was admitted to the Department of Folk Music of the Central Conservatory of Music in 2000 to receive an undergraduate degree in systematic professional music education.
