Classification of music majors
1. Keyboard category: A. Piano: Bach’s overtures and fugues or similar Bach works; Beethoven, Haydn, Mozart or Schubert sonatas ; Romantic works of the nineteenth century; works of the twentieth century. B. Organ: The main representative works of organ art - major works of Bach and any two romantic works or contemporary works. C. Harpsichord: The main representative works of the harpsichord - a major Bach work, an important seventeenth-century work and a demonstration of French and Italian styles. 2. String instruments: A. Violin: a movement from Bach’s solo sonata; a movement from a Romantic period or 20th century concerto; any work from Paganini’s Caprice; short works by Kreisler, Sarasate, or deFalla or similar pieces. B. Viola: any movement of Bach's viola suites, any movement of Schubert or Brahms sonatas; any movement of Bartók or Walton viola concertos. C. Cello: Baroque sonata, Haydn Concerto in D major, first movement of Dvo?ák or Schumann concerto; a Popper étude, No. 6, 18, 26, or 33.D. Bass guitar: Baroque sonata or solo concerto ; several orchestral excerpts; one contemporary work. E. Guitar: Main representative works - Bach works and 20th century works. F. Harp: A major work by Bach or another Baroque work, a major French work, and/or a work by Hindemith Casella, Debussy or Ravel. 3. Woodwind and brass instruments: A. Flute: Sonatine of Dutilleux (piano accompaniment), the second movement of Mozart’s Concerto in D, one work of the applicant’s choice. Applicants for interviews will be asked to perform live an Ibert work, the third movement of the Jolivet Concerto, or a work by Chant de Linos; perform from memory the second movement of the Mozart Concerto in D; and the Kuhlau Duo in D, piece 102, no.1. B. Other instruments: main sonatas; solo works; concertos; several orchestral selections. 4. Percussion (xylophone, timpani, snare drum): an important solo work; any six orchestral selections. 5. Vocal music: A. Opera: The vocal music cassette should include seven excerpts (operas, religious plays and/or pieces with different styles and languages, four of which should be opera arias) B. Composition: at least three recent works must be included in the score or CD, and they must be for different instruments. Selection of music for voice or electro-acoustic instruments. 7. Conductor, Orchestra and Chorus: Interviews will be based on the applicant’s written application. Applicants must submit a videotape. The interview requires applicants to have corresponding comprehensive skills such as theory, transposition, keyboard skills and music reading. Each applicant will be asked to conduct a corresponding movement or excerpt from a designated orchestral or choral repertoire. 8. Computer Music - Computer Music is music that uses computer technology or equipment in the process of creation, performance, production and dissemination. The other category is: programming through computers and related equipment to control MIDI musical instruments or digital devices to create, perform and produce music. 9. Digital Audio-Digital AudioDigital Audio-Digital Audio is a kind of digital sound. Sound is usually recorded and edited in a binary digital combination of 0 and 1 through computers and corresponding digital audio equipment such as digital recorders, analog to digital converters (Analog to Digital Converter, abbreviated as "A/D"), and Spectrum or waveform is displayed on the computer screen for non-linear editing and production. 10. Music education supplements. Future music teachers need to have diversified backgrounds, be discovered early, and form teaching and musical abilities. A teaching CD needs to be recorded when applying.
