On the whole, the dramatic music structure of Nanxi Opera is based on the script, and it is divided into stages by the main characters, and each stage starts and ends in its own way, which is called a play, or a fold; A play can be as long as dozens, and the use of qupai and sets is more flexible and free. The first play introduces the main idea of the plot by the end color, which is called "the opening of the deputy end" Since the second play, the main and secondary roles have appeared for the second time, and all kinds of hot and cold scenes have been matched with each other, and the drama contradiction has gradually unfolded until it reaches its climax. At the end of the last play, there is an ending poem that comments on the nature of the whole play.

Southern Opera originated from the Han people. In its initial stage, it was simple in structure and lively and free in form, with only three or four characters. After entering the city, the script grew, with dozens of characters. The role branches are becoming more and more detailed, with seven basic lines: life, Dan, clean, ugly, foreign, end and paste, and widely absorbing the tone, form, expression method and performance skills of various palace tunes, singing and earning, ci tunes, Song zaju and Yuan zaju. Such as the absorption of intonation in singing and qupai; The combination of lyrical and narrative vocals and the combination of qupai absorb various palace tunes and earn money by singing; Reading aloud, singing, being funny, and absorbing the anecdote, participating in military dramas, zaju and school books; The absorption of song and dance performances, playing Bao Lao, jumping bamboo, etc. Influenced by zaju and other arts, its performing arts, such as singing, chanting, spreading and dancing, have gradually developed into a mature stage, which is not only harmonious and consistent as a whole, but also can give full play to their respective strengths and gradually form a complete performing arts system and procedures.

The tone cavity of Nanxi Opera was originally formed on the basis of folk songs. At first, the Southern Opera was a Han folk opera with songs and dances, and it was sung by connecting several folk songs. After entering the city, it was only "that the village workshop's small skills were related to the ancient law department" (Xu Weiyu, the ancient law department refers to Tang and Song Daqu, etc.), and the beneficial elements of traditional music were widely absorbed, which reached maturity. According to Wang Guowei's statistics, there are more than 26 ballads in Southern Opera, including 19 from Tang and Song Dynasties, 24 from Daqu Opera, 13 from Jin Zhugong Tunes, 1 from Southern Song Dynasty, 13 from Yuan Zaju, and 17 others, which shows the important position of tune in Southern Opera. Many of these tunes have been handed down to this day, and some of the older tunes and operas, such as Kunqu Opera, Gaoqiang Opera and Liyuan Opera, all have the legacy of southern opera music.
