In October 1971, Xiao Ke was born in a military family in Beijing. He is an authentic Manchu. His original name was Ke Zhaolei before entering the music scene. His parents are both literary and artistic workers in the military art troupe. His father plays the trumpet and has composed two musical works in the army. His mother is a singer.
In 1981, when he was 10 years old, he was influenced by a friend who was learning to play piano, so he studied piano with Professor Jin Aiping of the Central Conservatory of Music.
In 1983, at the age of 12, Xiao Ke, who had only studied piano for two years, took the exam for the Conservatory of Music. Among all the contestants, only Xiao Ke had the shortest time to learn piano. Later, in this examination, Xiao Ke was rejected from the music school with only one grade.
He studied at Fengsheng Middle School in Xicheng District, Beijing, China in 1984.
In 1988, he joined the Beijing Jinfan Art Troupe Vocal Ensemble, learned guitar for a period of time and began to try songwriting and singing. In the same year, his own compositions participated in the "Peace Cup" middle school student singer competition and won an award.
After graduating from high school in 1990, he was recommended to study in the Music Department of Capital Normal University, majoring in piano. While in school, he formed a rock band called "Chinese Boys" with several like-minded friends who love music. He plays the role of keyboard player and lead singer, writes songs, learns arrangement techniques, and devotes himself to creation.
In 1991, he began to study JAZZ music by himself and compose songs. From 1992 to 1995, he served as a music teacher at Fengsheng Middle School in Xicheng District, Beijing. He joined Beijing MIMLLE JAZZ BAND as a pianist and singer and toured the country with the band.
In 1993, he was invited to teach "Piano Improvisational Accompaniment and Performance" and "JAZZ Music" to teachers and graduate students in the Music Department of Capital Normal University.
In 1994, he began to use computers to compose music and arrange music for others. After graduating from university, Xiao Ke worked as a music teacher in a middle school in Beijing. He developed a strong interest in jazz and got help from an excellent jazz musician, Ting Quanquan. Later, he came into contact with using computers to make music. Xiao Ke received guidance from Zhang Long, deputy head of the Media and Mine Art Troupe, who taught him how to make music using MIDI.
