Zong Juntao was born in Lanzhou and grew up in an artistic family. His mother is Zhou Hua, a famous actor in Henan Opera and winner of the Plum Blossom Award. His father is a drama educator. He learned opera as a child and stood on stage at the age of 6. Ever since he won the second prize in the National Peking Opera New Artists Grand Prix in 1998 by singing the Peking Opera "Empty City Strategy" and "Taking Tiger Mountain by Wisdom", Zong Juntao has always felt that he would continue on the road of opera performance.
