Bedrich Smetana, the founder of the Czech National Music School, was born in Letomi?il on March 2, 1824 and died in a mental hospital near Prague on May 12, 1884. He is sixty years old.

Smetana is a famous Czech composer, conductor and pianist. He was born in a family of brewers and showed extraordinary musical talent at an early age. He began studying violin at the age of four, gave piano recitals at the age of six, and began composing music at the age of eight. His first teacher was the outstanding Czech musician Joseph Prok?, from whom Smetana received a profound lesson. In 1843, Smetana participated in the revolutionary movement to resist alien rule and overthrow the feudal autocracy. After the revolution failed, he was forced to go into exile. In 1856, he served as conductor of the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra in Sweden. In 1861, he returned to China and served as the conductor of the Prague Chorus. Unfortunately, he became completely deaf in both ears in 1874, and finally died of mental illness.

Smetana worked hard throughout his life and wrote many works of high value.
