Common wrist problems include the following:

(1) The wrist is too flexed. Due to the tension (i.e. contraction) of the forearm flexor muscles, the wrist flexes. The greater the tension of the flexor muscles, the greater the degree of wrist flexion. Excessive tension in the forearm flexor muscles causes excessive flexion of the wrist, resulting in a lack of strength and elasticity in the fingers, making it difficult to move the fingers and affecting playing.

(2) The wrist is too far back. This wrong posture causes the upper arm to be raised too high, and the forearm and hand muscles are always in a state of tension, which makes it difficult to lift the fingers and play the strings. During the process of reaching the fingertips, part of the arm strength is lost due to the collapse of the wrist.

(3) The wrist is too flat. Because the wrist posture is too flat, the fingers must be spread out, so the finger movements increase during playing. At the same time, the strumming points and string strumming directions of each finger are inconsistent, which affects the timbre and strength. (WeChat ID: A must-read for guzheng people)

(4) The wrist is twisted to the right. A twisted wrist will inevitably cause excessive tension in the muscles of the palm and forearm. If this incorrect posture is adopted for a long time, it will not only affect the string playing direction of the fingers and the flexibility of the fingers, but also easily strain the wrist muscles.

(5) The wrist is stiff. The flexor and extensor muscles that control wrist movement are completely in a state of tension and stalemate, making it difficult to flex and extend the wrist.

The five common problems listed above refer to inappropriate hand shapes under normal playing conditions and in the midrange playing position. Due to the limitation of the curvature of the zither panel, the degree of flexion of the wrist should not be Adjust as the playing range changes. In the bass area, the degree of wrist flexion is greater, while in the high-pitched area, especially when playing melody and rocking music with the right hand; due to the change in the arc width of the panel and being too close to the upper body, the wrist not only cannot flex, but sometimes It still needs to collapse a bit to play well.
