Xi'an Conservatory of Music, referred to as "Xi'an Conservatory of Music", is one of the 11 independent music professional colleges in the country and the only independent music school in the northwest region. It is an established higher music institution and a “domestic first-class discipline” construction university in Shaanxi Province. The school was founded in October 1949. Its predecessor was the "Music Department of Northwest Military and Political University" founded in the Shanxi-Sui border area;

In 1950, it was renamed "Northwestern Art College"; in 1953, it was adjusted to "Northwestern Art College" In 1956, the music and art departments of the school were established separately, and the music department was restructured into "Xi'an Music College"; in 1960, it was officially named Xi'an Conservatory of Music, and it was renamed Shaanxi Art College before the reform and opening up; in 1980, the organizational structure of Xi'an Conservatory of Music was restored .
