Nie Er (1912-1935), formerly known as Nie Shouxin, also known as Ziyi (also known as Ziyi), was originally from Yuxi, Yunnan, a people's musician, a revolutionary, and the most famous alumnus of Kunming University.
Nie Er was born on February 15, 1912 (December 28 of the Xinhai Year of the Lunar Calendar) at No. 72, Yongdao Street, Kunming City, Yunnan Province. In 1918, he studied at the Kunming Normal School Affiliated Primary School; in 1922, Nie Er entered the senior section of the private Qiushi Primary School; in 1925, he was admitted to the Yunnan Provincial No. 1 United Middle School; in the autumn of 1927, he entered the Yunnan Provincial No. 1 Normal School; in 1928, he studied at the Yunnan Provincial No. The First Normal School was introduced by Li Guozhu to join the Communist Youth League of China; in 1931, he joined the Mingyue Song and Dance Drama Club chaired by Li Jinhui as a violinist; in November 1932, he joined the *** Hua Film Company and participated in the "Soviet War" "Friends Society" music group, organized the "China Emerging Music Research Society", and participated in the music group of the Left-wing Dramatists Alliance (Friends Society of the Soviet Union); in 1933, he began composing music for left-wing films and dramas, and was introduced to the Communist Party of China by Tian Han in Shanghai. ; In April 1934, Nie Er joined EMI Records (the predecessor of China Record Factory) to preside over the music department, and at the same time established the EMI National Band (also known as the "Sensen National Band"); in early 1935, Nie Er composed the famous "March of the Volunteers" ; On July 17, 1935, Nie Er, who was only 23 years old, unfortunately drowned while swimming in Fujisawa City, Japan.

Nie Er was a talented musician and a revolutionary. The Japanese invasion of China and the ups and downs of the domestic anti-Japanese mass movement aroused surging emotions in Nie Er's heart, and music and revolution have been combined since then. His sonorous and powerful notes were the voices of the people under the circumstances at that time. In 1932, ten days after the "December 128" Incident broke out in Shanghai, that is, on February 7, when the roar of gunfire could be heard outside and refugees were running and crying on the streets, Nie Er first proposed in his diary that " How to make revolutionary music.” When "March of the Volunteers" was played for the first time on the screen, it unfortunately coincided with the death of Nie Er, but this song resounded throughout China as the clarion call for national revolution and is also famous all over the world. During the anti-fascist war, this song was often played on radio stations in Britain, the United States, India and many other countries. On the eve of the end of the war, the U.S. State Department also approved its inclusion in the "Allied Victory Song". When collecting the national anthem on the eve of the founding of New China, Zhou Enlai proposed using this song, and it was unanimously approved at the New Deal Association. Nie Er was a talented musician and a revolutionary, and it was precisely because of the latter that the glory of the former could occur.
In 1954, *** Yunnan Provincial People *** renovated Nie Er’s tomb in Xishan, Kunming, and asked Guo Moruo to inscribe the tombstone and epitaph. Guo Moruo wrote on the monument "The Tomb of People's Musician Nie Er", and the epitaph was "Comrade Nie Er, the trumpet of the Chinese revolution and the drum of the people's liberation." The "March of the Volunteers" he composed has been selected as the substitute national anthem. Those who speak out are all filled with patriotic thoughts, solemn and ambitious spirit, and resolutely share the same interests with the country. They are majestic, and they live as long as the nation, and will be immortal forever. Phew! Comrade Nie Er, a member of the Communist Party of China, was born in the beautiful Kunming on February 14, 1912. He drowned on the seaside of Kunuma, Japan on July 17, 1935. Nie Er studied at Yunnan Provincial First Normal School from the autumn of 1927 to 1930. Yunnan Provincial First Normal School has a long history and a long history. In 1903, the Qing Dynasty** * Wuhua Academy was renamed Yunnan Higher School; in 1912, it was renamed Yunnan Provincial First Normal School; in 1933, it was renamed Kunhua Normal School; in 1950, Kunhua Normal School merged with Kunhua Women's Normal School and Kunming County Normal School Kunming Normal School; in September 2000, Kunming Normal School merged into Kunming Normal College; in May 2004, Kunming Normal College merged with Kunming University to form Kunming College.
