Deng Jianhong, after graduating from Form 5, studied fine arts at the University of Alberta in Canada. In 1996, he entered the entertainment industry as an overseas contestant in the 15th Rookie Singing Contest on behalf of Calgary. He signed a contract with Hong Kong Radio and TVB (TVB) and served as the host of the children's program "Lightning Fax Machine".
In 2001, he signed with Gold Medal Entertainment Co., Ltd. and became a singer. In the same year, he released his first album of the same name "Patrick Tang" and won the Silver Award for New Male Singer at the 2001 Metro Awards and New Male Singer at the Music Awards.
In 2002, he sang the children's song "Shoot the Summer Vacation" with Raymond Lam, Li Caihua, and Fang Lishen, and won the Top Ten Song Award at the Children's Song Golden Melody Carnival Awards Ceremony.
In 2006, he left TVB and signed with Han Music Company. He only released singles such as "Friend No. 2" but no album. During this period, he still participated in TVB program hosting and children's song singing.
In 2007, he returned to TVB and joined Zhengdong Records at the same time, becoming the first artist to be jointly operated by TVB and Zhengdong Records. In the same year, he co-hosted the TVB game show "Taste of the World" with Yu Chengqing, and won two awards for Best Program Host and Most Creative Program at the 2007 TVB Star Awards Ceremony.
In 2008, he participated in the TV series "The King of Billiards", playing the second male lead Jin Ziqian.
In March 2009, Deng Jianhong and Wan Qiwen collaborated in the stage play "Pinxiang Hotel". The play tells the story of their father leaving when they were young, and they live with their mother and brothers and sisters. In August, two performances of the musical stage play "Cambodian Date" were performed at the Hong Kong Coliseum.
In 2010, he took over the filming of the TVB celebration drama "Interpol 2010" starring Miu Qiaowei and Huang Rihua, playing a schizophrenic murderer. On May 14th, the album "Link 2 Pat’s Trick" was released. The album cover was processed by computer, transforming himself into a digital person, with countless bubbles and sharp corners on his head, representing how the real and virtual selves are separated and fighting against each other.
In 2011, he participated in "Flying Tiger" and played O Ji police officer BEN.
In 2013, he participated in "Love Beyond the Coastline", partnering with his ex-girlfriend Li Shiyun, playing the role of wealthy businessman Zhou Qihua.
In 2014, he participated in "The Walker" starring Raymond Lam and Michael Miu, playing the role of O Ji Chief Inspector Ye Zhaoliang.
