Charles Camille Saint-Sa?ns (1835-1921), French piano and organ player and composer. Saint-Sa?ns made a living playing organ in various churches in Paris. In 1857, he replaced Lefébure-Wely, the outstanding organist, and worked as organist at the Eacute glise de la Madeleine for twenty years.
Saint-Sa?ns was a versatile man who dabbled in geology, archaeology, botany and entomology in his early years. He was also an expert in mathematics. Later, in addition to composing, performing, and writing music reviews, he also held discussions with leading European scientists and wrote academic articles on acoustics, magical science, Roman theater decoration, and ancient musical instruments.
