The standard approach to music therapy for schizophrenia is:
1. According to the patient's condition, the doctor prescribes music and the music therapist implements it. For example, patients with apathy can choose cheerful tunes to mobilize and stimulate the patient's emotions. Some studies have found that patients who are emotionally indifferent, do not talk to anyone, and have a dull facial expression, when they go to the music therapy room to hang up their headphones and listen to cheerful music, their facial expressions can sometimes smile, and they can take the initiative to say "this music" "Good to listen to" evaluation, it can be seen that suitable music can arouse the patient's emotions and mobilize his emotions. This method is called "listening music therapy".
2. Organize patients to implement "participatory music therapy". First, some simple musical instruments should be purchased for the patient, such as percussion dulcimer, stringed erhu, etc. Then the doctor and music therapist will jointly select music suitable for the patient's condition, and the music therapist will teach the patient to play it. In this work, we often see several patients with schizophrenia who usually do not interact with each other. However, when they go to the music therapy room and under the direction of the musician, they can use different instruments to play harmonious music, which shows that through music, this special Language, there is contact, cooperation, communication and harmony between them.
3. Music therapy has clear indications for patients with schizophrenia. Those patients who have obvious mental decline and are indifferent to any interpersonal activities do not need music therapy.
At present, all major psychiatric hospitals in my country are equipped with music therapy rooms, and music therapy associations have also been organized across the country. However, the effectiveness of music therapy on schizophrenia is still under research and exploration.
