One of the important musical forms in the Han Dynasty is Xianghe Song.

Xianghege was formed during the Han Dynasty on the basis of "Jiemo Yao" and inherited traditional tones such as Qin Sheng, Zhao Sheng, Qi Sheng, Zheng Sheng and Chu Sheng in the pre-Qin Dynasty. Xianghege is also one of the most representative traditional dances of the Han people. It is mainly played on occasions such as banquets and entertainments among officials and wealthy businessmen, and is also used in court New Year's Day gatherings and banquets, worshiping gods and even traditional folk activities.

The Beginning of the Han Dynasty

During the Warring States, Qin and Han Dynasties, folk music represented by Qi Sheng Chu Sheng became widely popular in society. Liu Bang, the emperor of the Han Dynasty, was particularly fond of Chu Sheng. Therefore, Chu Sheng was quite popular in the court.

During the reign of Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty (140 BC - 87 BC), "there were talented people from Yeting inside and Shanglin Yuefu outside, all of whom used Zheng Sheng to serve the court" ("Book of Han? Rites and Music") 》) situation. The court of the Han Dynasty was also particularly superstitious about alchemists and pursued the magic of gods. For this reason, Pinggao was set up in Chang'an and Luoyang, and a variety of songs and dances, including Xianghe songs, were often performed in Taoist temples.

In addition, lords and nobles in various places also generally had male and female musicians to play various music such as Xianghe songs during banquets and entertainment. So Xianghege gradually flourished.
