Extended information

The historical origin of Yinglong: Yinglong first appeared in the previous Yellow Emperor period, which is recorded in "The Classic of Mountains and Seas" and "Historical Records". The general idea is that there was a war between the tribes in the Yellow River Basin headed by the Yellow Emperor and the tribes in the Yangtze River Basin headed by Chiyou. Both sides used various magical animals to help. Yinglong on Huangdi's side was good at "retaining water", and there was also a spirit creature on Chiyou's side who was good at making wind and rain. His ability was even better than that of Yinglong, so heavy rain drifted towards Huangdi's side.

The Yellow Emperor was in a weak position, so he asked the goddess "Ban" to help stop the heavy rain and annihilated the Chiyou tribe in one fell swoop. Yinglong made great contributions in the war and killed Chiyou and Kuafu. Because the war consumed too much energy, he could no longer flap his wings and fly back to heaven, so he quietly came to the south and lived in seclusion in the mountains.
