The School of Art of Yanbian University was founded in 1957. It is the only institution of higher learning in China that trains Korean professional artistic talents. The college currently has 6 teaching institutions including the Department of Music, Department of Dance, Department of Fine Arts, Department of Drama, Department of Cultural Foundations, and Department of Physical Education and Research; Musicology, Music Performance, Composition Theory, Fine Arts, Painting, and Art Design (covering photography, environment, etc.). There are 5 majors (art, decoration, sculpture, costume, etc.), dance, performance, etc., and 18 professional directions. In addition, there are scientific research institutions such as the National Art Research Institute, the Korean Art Information Center, the Art Design and Research Center, the National Instrumental Music Research and Production Center, and the Lin Jing Vocal Music Research Institute. Among the above-mentioned disciplines, musicology, fine arts, and dance have the right to confer master's degrees. At present, the college has formed the characteristics and advantages of "comprehensive, applied, open, and one-stop" education, and has become a national art college that has begun to take shape and has a certain influence at home and abroad.

The college has a strong teaching staff, including a group of experts and scholars who are influential in the academic world and a large number of outstanding young and middle-aged teachers. There are currently 269 faculty members and 175 full-time teachers. Among them, there are 8 professors, 50 associate professors, 10 master's tutors, 1 young and middle-aged academic backbone of the province, 1 "251" subject leader of Yanbian University, 3 academic leaders, and 2 young and middle-aged academic backbones. In addition, the college often invites famous experts and scholars at home and abroad to give lectures.

Since its establishment, the college has trained more than 4,000 high-level professional art talents for the country. Among them, many graduates work and teach in nationally renowned literary and artistic groups and art schools such as the China University for Nationalities, the Ministry of National Defense, China National Radio, the Central Orchestra, the Central Conservatory of Music, and the Beijing Dance Academy. Some have become well-known at home and abroad. of high-level artistic talents.

In recent years, the college has continuously deepened the reform of education and teaching, constantly adjusted the subject structure, based on scientific educational concepts, focused on broadening students’ innovative spirit and ability; strengthened professional basic teaching, and focused on Academic exchanges, efforts to improve students' comprehensive quality and abilities, have formed a subject system with its own characteristics and a multi-level and multi-channel talent training system, and formed an excellent school spirit of "diligence, rigor, truth-seeking, and pragmatism".
