The Monkey King, originally named Journey to the West 2, was renamed when it was introduced to the Mainland. It is the second film of The Journey to the West in Hong Kong in 1996. Directed by Sze Yu Lau and starring Benny Chan, Jiang Hua, Li Yaoxiang, Changqing Mai, Guo Zhenghong and Zhang Huiyi, it was released on October 26th, 1998.
The drama mainly tells the story that liu er macaques, both immortals and petrified, are fed with Dan medicine by the Third Devil, and become giant monkeys, endangering the human world, involving Wukong's injustice and finally getting revenge.
Benny Chan, born on October 7th, 1969 in Hong Kong, China, graduated from Lingnan University in Hong Kong, and is a Hong Kong actor and singer. In 1994, Benny Chan joined the entertainment circle to shoot advertisements for Vitasoy, and later became a Hong Kong TVB artist.
