This piece was completed in the spring of 1804. Its title is "Eroica Symphony-composed in memory of a great man", referred to as "Eroica Symphony", the original manuscript The title is "Napoleon Bonaparte Grande Symphony" and was written for Napoleon at the invitation of the French Ambassador in Vienna. To Beethoven, Napoleon was a revolutionary ideal and a modern Prometheus. But when Beethoven heard the news that Napoleon had proclaimed himself emperor, he angrily tore off the title page that was originally intended to be dedicated to Napoleon and changed it to the current title.
