Introduction to Kaifeng City Wall

The Kaifeng City Wall was originally Bianzhou City during the Sui and Tang Dynasties. In the second year of Jianzhong of Tang Dynasty (731), Li Mian was enlarged by Yongping Army. In the Five Dynasties, Hou Liang, Later Jin, Later Han, Later Zhou, and Northern Song Dynasty successively established Kaifeng as their capital, and Kaifeng's city walls were repaired to varying degrees. During the 163 years since the capital was established in the Northern Song Dynasty, the city of Tokyo was expanded and reinforced on a large scale, making the capital magnificent and world-famous.

Today's Kaifeng City Wall was rebuilt in the 22nd year of Daoguang's reign in the Qing Dynasty (1842). It is 8m high, 5m wide, and 14.4km in circumference. It has a blue brick structure and is roughly similar to the inner city of Tokyo. Although it is not as majestic as Song City, it is still the second largest city wall in China after Xi'an's An City Wall. In 1996, it was announced as a national key cultural relic protection unit by the State Council.

For thousands of years, people have been repairing and expanding the Kaifeng City Wall.
