For a thousand years, gagaku has been the court music of Japan. The Korean court also retained some characteristics of Tang Dynasty music. Tang music was lost in the Central Plains. If we want to understand Tang music today, we have to go to South Korea and Japan. This is indeed a cultural phenomenon worth pondering. The musical instruments of Japanese gaku include shakuhachi, sheng, xiao, zither, drums and gongs. Takemitsu Toru's "Autumn Garden Song" strives to be faithful to the original style of Gagaku. It can be said to be Takemitsu's most Japanese work. The authentic style of Gagaku is conveyed by the combination of instrument timbres. Toru Takemitsu said: I don’t want to control the sounds to move in a fixed direction, I just release them and let them move on their own. "Autumn Garden Song" creates a static picture, which is sobering and desolate.
