Baroque music refers to a musical style that was popular in Europe from the late 16th century to the mid-18th century. The word "Baroque" comes from Portuguese, and its original meaning is "out of round pearl". German art historians in the 19th century used it to refer to an artistic style popular in Europe in the 17th century that tended to be luxurious, exaggerated, and pursued momentum and ups and downs.

Baroque music is characterized by expressive melody; a polyphonic music texture that highlights the main melody is integrated into a polyphonic music texture with relatively independent parts, and the continuo bass is generally used; and harmonies are used.
