Chao Jing is a 23-paragraph score written by Norwegian composer Edvard Grieg in 1888 for a five-act pingju by Norwegian playwright Ibsen. After that, eight of them were selected and adapted into two suites. This song is the first in the first suite of "Pearl Gold". This was originally the music describing the sunrise and early morning scenery when the protagonist Pearl Gint wandered to Morocco in the fourth act of the poetic drama.
The performance of this piece requires an orchestra, including violin, viola, cello, double bass, flute, oboe, bassoon, French horn, trumpet and trombone.
