"Voice of Zheng Wei" refers to the folk music of Zheng and Wei (central and eastern Henan). This area was inhabited by Shang people in the early days. After the King of Wu cut down the Shang Dynasty, he divided it into two parts and established vassal states to monitor the adherents of the Shang Dynasty and prevent them from insurrection. However, after the death of King Wu, Guan Shu, Cai Shu and Wu Geng colluded with the rebellion, and Zhou Gongdan led the army to suppress it, and the place was enfeoffed to Kang Shu (the younger brother of King Wu) for permanent supervision. Therefore, it can be said that "the voice of Zheng Wei" is actually the "legacy of the previous dynasty" that retains the traditional music of Shang nationality. Because of its unrestrained, enthusiastic and bold expression of feelings, it also contains some sense of reunion, which makes the Zhou royal family and its defenders who respect "elegant music" often reject and deny it.
Zheng and Wei countries have preserved rich folk music. There are 16 articles in The Book of Songs and National Style, and Zheng Feng and Wei Feng make up 31 articles, accounting for about one fifth. Most of the "Feng" poems in various countries are short ballads, but there are some large-scale segmented songs in "Zheng Feng" and "Wei Feng", so we can imagine the complicated changes in their musical structure. In some poems reflecting folk life, there are often descriptions of love scenes in which men and women exchange gifts (The Book of Songs, Zheng Feng) and confide in each other, which vaguely reveals a romantic atmosphere and has a strong artistic appeal.
