"Catching Loach"
Lyricist: Hou Dejian
Composer: Hou Dejian
Singer: Bao Meisheng
Lyrics:
The pond is full and the rain has stopped.
The mud at the edge of the field is full of loaches.
I wait for you every day, waiting for you to catch loaches.
Big brother, okay, let’s go catch loaches.
The calf’s brother took him to catch loaches.
Big brother, okay, let’s go catch loaches.
The pond is full of water and the rain has stopped
The pond is full of water and the rain has stopped.
The mud at the edge of the field is full of loaches.
I wait for you every day, waiting for you to catch loaches.
Big brother, okay, let’s go catch loaches.
The calf’s brother took him to catch loaches.
Big brother, okay, let’s go catch loaches.
Big brother, okay, let’s go catch loaches.
Big brother, okay, let’s go catch loaches.
Big brother, okay, let’s go catch loaches.
Big brother, okay, let’s go catch loaches.
Big brother, okay, let’s go catch loaches.
Extended information:
This song is the first song composed by Hou Dejian, Bao Meisheng’s friend from the same village (although the two went to the same kindergarten when they were children, they did not know each other) As for the song, Hou Dejian never received any formal music education, so he wrote this song in a daze and effortlessly. The first version of "Maverick's Brother" was originally "Xiao Mao's Brother", but the Taiwan authorities failed to pass the review, so they casually changed it to "Maverick's Brother" and passed it in a muddle. This song is full of childishness and is one of Hou Dejian's few folk ballad-style works.
The children's song "Catching Loaches" was extremely popular in Taiwan at that time, and has crossed the shallow strait to become the childhood memory of many people in mainland China. Both adults and children can hum a few lines. Later, the cover version by singers such as Zhuo Yiting further contributed to the spread of this song and extended the life of this children's song.
