Introduction:
Act I The first scene is an open area among the rocks in Egypt, with lush trees everywhere, roads leading to hills on both sides, and a temple nearby.
At this moment, Tamino, a young prince dressed in gorgeous ancient Greek hunting clothes, was chased by the serpent and fled here. He had a bow in his hand, but the arrow had been shot. He was chased by the python and shouted, "Help! Help!" Passed out later.
At this moment, the door of the palace opened, and three maids with veils and silver javelins appeared. After they stabbed the python to death, they squatted down to look at Tamino and exclaimed, "What a handsome young man this is!" And then fight to be there for him. None of them would report to the Queen alone: "Why should I go?" They couldn't help singing, "I'm willing to give everything as long as I can live with him." In the end, there was no choice but to say goodbye to him reluctantly and report to the Queen together. This is a beautiful trio. With the psychological progress, the rhythm of accompaniment also changes.
when Tamino woke up, he found that the boa constrictor was dead. At this time, the sound of flute was heard in the distance, and a man came in a short time. The prince quickly hid behind the tree.
At this time, Papageno was carrying a big birdcage, dressed in clothes made of feathers, playing the flute (the flute of the faun) and singing this naive folk tune. He sang: "I am a bird catcher", and he sang: "I play the flute happily at any moment, and there is no one here who doesn't know me. As long as you blow this flute, birds will fly, so all birds belong to me. I hope to have a net to catch girls, so that they will become mine. If I get the girl I love, I will give her sugar to eat. If she will marry me, I will let her sleep beside me. "
When Papageno finished singing, Tamino couldn't help asking him, "Who are you?" The bird catcher replied, "Who am I? It's puzzling, I'm as human as you! " Tamino thought that the man in strange clothes killed the serpent and saved his life, so he told Papageno, "I am a prince, and my father ruled many subjects and a large territory in a distant place."
But Papageno doesn't understand what "prince", "territory" and "subjects" are. He is a son of nature who is equal to everyone. So Tamino asked him, "How do you live?" "I catch birds for the night queen and her maids, and they give me food and drink." Finally, he got carried away and boasted, "I killed this boa constrictor!" "
Suddenly the city gate opened and three veiled maids appeared, shouting, "Papageno!" The bird catchers were startled because they had never been so fierce. Then the three maids said one after another, "The Night Queen will give you the price of catching birds, but instead of wine, bread and fruit, water will be used instead of bread, and your mouth will be locked with a lock. This is a punishment for telling a lie. "
Then they said to Tamino, "Young man, we saved you, not the bird catcher." And took out a portrait for Tamino to see: "This is the portrait of Pamina, the daughter of the Queen of the Night. If you are tempted by the portrait, you will get happiness, honor and fame." After that, he retreated with Papageno.
Tamino saw the portrait, marveled at the beauty of the princess, and sang this famous "portrait aria": "What a beautiful portrait". He said, "It seems that no one has seen it. Such a beautiful girl, she ignited the fire in my heart, is this love? If I can find her, I must hold her tightly in my arms and have her forever. " Although this is a simple love song, it can stimulate surging feelings and hold people's hearts.
When the prince finished singing and wanted to leave, three maids appeared again and stopped him. They alternately told Tamino that the Queen of the Night had heard what he said, and pointed out, "Pamina in this portrait was abducted by the hateful devil one day in May." Tamino heard this and said, "Oh? Kidnapped by the bad guys? How pitiful this is! " He thought to himself that she might no longer be a virgin. The three maids were furious: "Even if she is in danger, she still sticks to her virginity." Tamino immediately said: "If so, I must rescue her."
At this moment, thunder rumbled and the maids told Tamino, "The Queen is here." The cliff suddenly parted to the left and right, and the stage became a solemn hall. The Queen of the Night sat on the throne full of stars and sang a recitative to Tamino: "Don't be afraid, young people, pure and intelligent people, only you can comfort the troubles in a mother's heart." Then she sang an aria in the adagio: "My fate is full of pain", and she said: "The mother whose lovely daughter was taken away is the most unfortunate in the world. As long as the beloved daughter does not return, happiness will not return, which is the despicable behavior of the devil. I can never forget my daughter's trembling cry for help. She cried sadly: help me! Help me! But there is nothing I can do. I can only hide my face and cry when I watch her being taken away. " She encouraged Tamino to say, "You are my savior. You are a man with indomitable spirit. When you come back from your mission, my daughter will always belong to you. " This is a very dramatic song, and it is the most brilliant Mozart aria. It shows maternal love and sadness, so besides being solemn in recitation, it should also be lyrical. This is a famous coloratura soprano song.
After the night queen finished singing, she led the maid to disappear in the dark, leaving only Tamino in a daze. At this time, the hall also disappeared, and the stage returned to the original barren mountain scenery. Tamino couldn't figure out whether it was true or not, so he prayed to the gods.
at this moment, Papageno appeared. He pointed to the sealed mouth and said, "Please unlock your mouth." He looked very pitiful and was no longer as happy as usual. Although Tamino sympathized with him, he could only say, "I have no choice but to save you."
Suddenly, three maids appeared again. They took off the lock on Papageno's mouth, but made him swear that he would never lie again.
At this moment, the first maid gave Tamino a golden flute from the Night Queen and said, "This magic flute can make people love, make the unfortunate happy, and make bachelors get partners. In case of crisis, it can also make people out of danger. This is more valuable than gold and silver treasures and crowns. " Then five people praised the flute together. Singing a wonderful quintet.
When Papageno was about to leave, three maids said to him, "You should go with Tamino to the castle in Salaste to save Pamina." However, Xiapapageno resisted and said, "I dare not go. This devil will pluck my feathers and eat me after braising in soy sauce." The first maid had to give him a silver bell and tell him that he could save the day by ringing it, so that he agreed to go with him.
when they were ready to leave, they realized that they didn't know how to get there, so they asked the maid for directions. The maids said, "There are three brave and clever boys ahead, who will guide you forward." They said goodbye and broke up with the maids.
In the second scene,
There are two slaves in the castle of Salaste Luo, and another slave comes in and says that Monos Tatos, the black footman of Salaste Luo, tried to rape Pamina, but she ran away. Suddenly there came the voice of Monos Tatos shouting for slaves to bring chains quickly. A slave went to the window and looked at it. He saw that Pamina had been caught by Monos Tatos.
Monos Tatos sings, "Beautiful little girl, come here!" "My life is so bitter." "Your life is in my hands." "I'm not afraid of death, but my mother is too poor." This is a duet, and when she was tied, she fainted.
At this critical moment, Papageno looked through the window in fear. He walked into the hall and said to himself, "What is this place? Let me go in and see. " When he entered the room, he first praised Pamina's beauty. Then they saw Monos Tatos like black charcoal, and when the black man saw a monster like a bird coming in, they both thought they saw a ghost and "whimpered" and fled from the left and right sides respectively.
At this moment, Pamina woke up, still calling her mother's name and lamenting her fate. Papageno came back and said, "Since there are blackbirds in the world, of course there will be blacks, which is not surprising." When he studied Pamina carefully, he recognized her as the daughter of the Queen of the Night, so he told her that a prince who saw her portrait had come to rescue her because he loved her.
Pamina thinks the prince must be her lover. Hearing this, Papageno couldn't help feeling: "I don't even have a lover." Pamina comforted and said, "Be patient, God will never help those who help him."
Then Papageno and Pamina, who yearned for love, sang this duet in praise of love. Beethoven, who loved the Magic Flute very much, once wrote a Variations on the Theme of the Magic Flute for Cello and Piano (seven paragraphs) based on the theme of this duet. This is a beautiful piece of music, which is often played alone in concerts.
Pamina sang: "A man who knows love must have a gentle and considerate heart." Papageno sang: "It is a woman's duty to share sweet love." Finally, they sang together: "Love is sublime, and only men and women can enter the divine world."
the third sacred forest. There are three temples of wisdom, reason and nature.
At this moment, the stage becomes a sacred forest where Salaste Luo Castle is located. There are three doors to enter the temple. From the right are the Temple of Wisdom, the Temple of Reason and the Temple of Nature. Wisdom, reason and nature are the central ideas of enlightenment philosophy.
As marked in the temple, Salaste Luo is not a demon here, but a highly respected priest, while the Queen of the Night is a bad woman. Three boys with silver coconut leaves in their hands led Tamino on the stage. The boys told Tamino, "This road will lead you to your destination. But you must be brave to win. " Then he warned him: "Be calm, be patient and be silent." Although Tamino asked them how to rescue Pamina, the boys retreated without answering this question.
At this moment, Tamino was startled to see that the devil's residence was so sacred. He summoned up his courage and prepared to go in through the door on the right, but there was a voice inside: "Back off!" " Walking to the left door, he finally tried the middle door, and an old man appeared. Then came a long recitative question and answer: "Is it true that Salaste Luo abducted Pamina?" "You don't know the truth. Don't listen to the queen of the night, Salaste Luo, she is really a respected person. " "So when can I know the truth?" "When the hand of friendship leads you to the temple and combines with eternal fetters."
The old man left the mystery and walked into the door. Tamino sighed: "Oh! Eternal darkness, when will you disappear? " Then he became a fool waiting for enlightenment. Then a voice came from behind the door and said, "If you don't do this, you will never get the light of wisdom." Tamino asked, "Is Pamina still alive?" "Pamina is safe and sound."
hearing the news, he immediately blew the magic flute and sang the famous flute aria. Several flute solos were inserted into the song. When the flute sounded, the birds in the forest sang and the animals came out to listen. As soon as the flute stopped, they ran away again. Tamino sang, "What a wonderful flute sound! Even the wild animals came out to listen. But Pamina, where are you? The flute, please pass it to Pamina. " Strange to say, he immediately heard Papageno's flute playing. Tamino happily searched in the direction of the flute.
At this moment, Pamina was pulled on by Papageno, and he sang, "Let's go, please take courage, in order to escape from villains and anger." They also hurried in the direction of Tamino's flute.
Monos Tatos came after him with a group of slaves. He said, "I'm going to fix them well. Someone dares to deceive me. " When the slaves surrounded the two men and the black man reached out to catch them, Papageno suddenly thought of the silver bell given to him by the night queen, so he picked it up and shook it violently. Oddly enough, Monos Tatos and the slaves sang and danced, and soon disappeared.
After seeing this scene, Papageno and Pamina praised the bell together. Papageno said: "If all men have a silver bell like this, their mood will be calm and disputes will disappear." Many people compare this duet with Schubert's Wild Rose, because the first two bars of the two songs have exactly the same structure.
At this moment, Salaste Luo finished hunting and was about to return to the temple. The chorus shouted: "Long live Salaste Luo!" Papageno trembled and tried to escape, but Pamina kept him: "Let's tell him the whole story."
Then, Salaste Luo appeared in a triumphal car pulled by six lions. When the chorus stopped and Salaste Luo got off the bus, Pamina knelt down humbly and said, "Because that black man tried to rape me. So I tried to escape. " Salaste Luo forgave her generously, but still forbade her to meet her mother. At this moment, Monos Tatos took Tamino to play. The two lovers who had never met recognized each other and immediately hugged each other. The black man flew into a rage, stepped forward and pulled the couple apart, and asked Salaste to punish them.
Unexpectedly, Salaste Luo ordered the slave to whip the black man and dragged him down. People praised the fair verdict. Then he ordered Tamino and Papageno to be taken to the temple of trial, when they were blindfolded.
Act II Scene 1 A forest full of coconut trees. You can see the pyramids in the rear.
When Salaste Luo and other priests appeared, Salaste Luo's speech and the priests' questions began. Salaste Luo: "Prince Tamino walked into the north gate of the temple and asked to practice there. What do you think?" Priests: "What is his virtue?" "Is there a sense of justice?" "Is it good?" Salaste Luo answered them one by one.
Salaste Luo also said, "I knew this long ago. So I took the lovely Pamina and her arrogant mother apart, and I was going to make them husband and wife, but Tamino had to be tested first.
The old man stood up and asked, "Is he a prince?" Salaste Rowe: "It doesn't matter. What matters is that he is alone. " "Is this young man afraid of death?" "I think he will go forward when he knows that he will serve isis and Osiris."
Then Salaste Luo ordered Tamino and his followers to be brought up, and entrusted the old man to teach them. This is a very famous bass solo: "God isis and Osiris, please give them wisdom". Salaste Luo prayed to God that the couple could successfully pass the severe test. After singing, Salaste led the crowd to step down.
The small courtyard in the temple in the second scene
At this time, the scene becomes small in the temple.
