Wealth, wisdom, health and longevity are what all sentient beings desire. We carefully observe the sentient beings in the six realms. When they live in this world, their lifelong pursuits are nothing more than these three things.
The Buddha told us that what kind of cause will lead to what kind of retribution, "One drink and one peck are all determined beforehand", there is nothing accidental or lucky. These three things are consequences, and the consequences must have causes. If you don’t cultivate the cause, where will the retribution come from? The Buddha told us that the cause is giving. Giving money will bring you wealth, giving Dharma will give you wisdom and giving, and giving fearlessly will give you health and longevity.
Buddha said in the sutra, "Accumulating wealth will lead to your own ruin, and rich wealth is a disgrace." How many people in the world know that wealth is a sin? If you can give up wealth, you will be blessed. Accumulating wealth is sinful karma. Do you know how many people in this world lack money? If you keep money by your side and let some people suffer, is this not creating karma?
Not to mention this wealth. Accumulation around you will increase greed; if you don't get rid of greed, you will still not be able to feel at ease by cultivating cause and effect. We carefully observe this society. There are indeed people who have made a fortune. They have accumulated assets reaching billions of dollars. Are they comfortable? He is not comfortable. Why is he not at ease? He has not left greed, so he is not at ease.
There are often people trying to steal his wealth or divide it up. There are too many things like this! Even in our Buddhist sect, there are many large monasteries with very strong financial resources. The family members all changed their minds. They have completely forgotten about Taoism and only have fame and fortune in their minds. They compete for fame and fortune, and their greed is growing every day. As greed grows, the Buddha tells us that the consequences will be in the realm of hungry ghosts.
The three evil karmas of greed, anger, and ignorance will inspire hungry ghosts, hells, and animals; greed is hungry ghosts, anger is hell, and ignorance is animals. If you create all three types of sins, the retribution will be terrible. This is in the future. It’s uncomfortable now! Your enemies, creditors, and thieves all regard you as a target and their prey. This is not right. The ease is very evident.
It seems uncomfortable to hire a bodyguard when going out. If you are comfortable, why do you need a bodyguard? How can he feel comfortable when he must always be on guard against harm from others? It is easy to prevent external harm, but difficult to prevent internal harm. . If this enemy and creditor is reincarnated into your family and becomes your son or daughter, and a later generation your grandson, this is what Buddhism calls a prodigal son, and it is impossible to guard against it.
The wealth you have now has not dissipated, it is your merit and destiny. People in our world generally say that you are lucky now. When you are prosperous, these enemies and creditors dare not touch you; but your fortune will decline, and you will not remain prosperous forever. What will you do when your fortune declines in the future?
