My hometown is located in the Central Plains area in southern Henan. It is said that we celebrate the Northern style of the Dragon Boat Festival. However, since our place is surrounded by mountains and rivers, it is called the Little Jiangnan of the North. We also have unique Dragon Boat Festival customs, including eating rice dumplings and wearing incense sticks. Making bags, inserting mugwort leaves, drinking realgar wine, and having a vigorous and lively dragon boat race that is rare in the north.
Folk customs in my hometown believe that May is an evil day, and hanging mugwort leaves like flags and Changpu like swords can drive away evil spirits and eliminate filth. During the Dragon Boat Festival on May 5th, every household has to go pick the dew-bearing "five-flavored grass" in the early morning. Boil eggs or duck eggs with "Wuweicao" and "Wushi water", and use the remaining water to bathe the children and drink realgar wine.

On both sides of Longquan Lake, red flags are flying and colorful flags are hunting. On the day of the competition, people came from all over to watch. Both sides of Longquan Lake were full of people and lively. There are two dragon boats moored by the river - a yellow dragon and a green dragon. Their dragon heads are raised and they are ready to go. With a loud sound of gongs and drums, the two dragon boats set off towards the same goal almost at the same time and at the same second. The drums on the boat were beating loudly, and 30 warriors were sitting in the boat, arranged on both sides of the boat. Each person held a paddle in their hand and worked hard. On the river bank, the crowd watching the battle shouted loudly: "Come on, Huanglong!" "Come on, Qinglong!" Listening to these passionate shouts, the rowing warriors all exerted their strength and waved their paddle boards, causing splashes of water behind them. There were waves. On the wide river, waves rolled, and two dragon boats cut through the waves and galloped towards the other side of the river. A 100-meter-wide riverbed can be crossed in less than five or six minutes. After a game, the two sides are indistinguishable from each other. The intense and exciting boat racing scene is breathtaking. After the race, no one wanted to leave. Everyone stood on the shore and reminisced about the endless fun of the boat race...
