Liaocheng University is located in Liaocheng, Shandong Province, a national historical and cultural city known as "Jiangbei Water City and Ancient Canal Capital". It is one of the first batch of the country's "Excellent Agricultural and Forestry Talent Education and Training Program" and the Ministry of Education's "National Training Program" It is one of the first batch of provincial key universities in Shandong Province to be constructed under the "Shandong Characteristic Famous Schools Project". It is the only comprehensive university in western Shandong and is known as the "highest university in western Shandong". The school originated from Shandong Normal University, which was established in 1950. In 1970, Shandong Normal University moved to Liaocheng to run schools. In 1974, the institution and most departments moved back to Jinan. At the same time, preparations were made to build the Liaocheng Branch of Shandong Normal University. In 1981, it was renamed Liaocheng Normal University with the approval of the State Council. The college was renamed Liaocheng University in 2002 with the approval of the Ministry of Education.
