Tianjin Conservatory of Music was founded in 1958 and is one of the first institutions in the country to confer master's and bachelor's degrees. The first dean of Tianjin Conservatory of Music was Miao Tianrui, a famous music educator and theorist.

After more than sixty years of construction, the college has developed into an important higher art education institution for cultivating talents in music, dance, drama, film and television. It now has three first-level disciplines: Art Theory, Music and Dance, and Drama and Film, and one professional master's degree (MFA) authorization point. Music and Dance, and Drama and Film are municipal key disciplines. There are currently 12 undergraduate majors such as music performance, including 3 national-level first-class undergraduate major construction sites, 3 Tianjin-level advantageous specialty majors, and 3 applied majors.
