Wuhan Conservatory Of Music, located in Wuhan, Hubei Province, is one of the nine independent conservatories in China, and the only independent institution of higher music in central China. It is a master's degree awarding unit, the first batch of MFA education pilot units in China, and a social and artistic level grading institution.

Wuhan Conservatory of Music was founded in 1953 by Zhongnan College of Literature and Art, South China People's College of Literature and Art and Guangxi Provincial College of Art. The musical parts of the above three schools were formerly known as Zhongyuan University College of Literature and Art, Wuchang College of Art which was taken over in 1949 and Hunan University College of Literature and Art which was merged in 195. Guangdong Provincial Art College, Guangzhou Municipal Art College and Hong Kong Chinese Conservatory of Music, which constitute the South China People's College of Literature and Art; Guangxi Provincial Art College's predecessor, Guangxi Provincial Art Teacher Training Course, etc. In 1958, Zhongnan Music College merged with Wuhan Art Teachers College to form Hubei Art College (named "Hubei Art College" from 1972 to 1978). In 1979, it began to recruit graduate students. In 1985, it was renamed Wuhan Conservatory of Music.
