The Traditional History of the Big Three-string of Yi Nationality

The early dance music, also known as "Abobi" in Yi language, means clapping and dancing. The dance rhythm is slow and the movements are light and stretching. Men and women sing and dance while playing, and the accompaniment instruments include flute, Sanhu, Yueqin and Muye, etc., which are mostly performed in the village. After the Republic of China, the small three-stringed gourd accompanied by dancing music was changed to a small three-stringed wooden tube. In 1921, Xian Wang, a young man from Axi Village, Fenghuang Village, Mile County, produced the first generation of big sanxian on the basis of the small cylindrical sanxian.

In p>193, Zhang Chongren, a young man from Muduqing Village, Xishan, produced the second generation of Da Sanxian, and since then, he has accompanied Da Sanxian to dance music and spread it all over every village in Axi. Since then, Shi Fenglin, a folk artist of the Yi nationality, has reformed and standardized the big three-stringed instrument, which has become the popular big three-stringed instrument of the Yi nationality.

In the summer of p>1946, some teachers and students from The National SouthWest Associated University organized Guishan yi dance Team in Lunan and performed in Kunming, which made the folk song and dance "A Xi Tiao Le" enter the city music stage for the first time. Nowadays, this cheerful dance (jumping on the moon), also known as "Gasbi" in Yi language, has become a traditional folk dance of Yi people, that is, "Axi dancing on the moon" which is famous all over the country. On the night of the festival, the bright moon hangs high. In the open field outside the Yi village, young men and women form a circle and a tall fire is lit in the middle. The young man dances with the girl while playing the big three strings. The main movements are running three steps, stopping two beats, lifting one foot forward and jumping in place, etc. The dance steps are vigorous, agile, melodious and lively, and the whole dance is full of enthusiasm and joy.
