School Introduction
Xinjiang Art Institute, referred to as "Xinyi", is located in Urumqi, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. It is the only comprehensive higher art institution in northwest China and one of the 8th in the country. The province (region) is one of the comprehensive art colleges, a member of the China-ASEAN Art Universities Alliance and the EU Art Universities Alliance.
It is listed as a university with characteristics and key disciplines in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. The Xinjiang Art Institute is supported by the Central Conservatory of Music, the Central Academy of Fine Arts, the Chinese Academy of Opera, and the Communication University of China.
The predecessor of the college was the Xinjiang Art School established in 1958. In 1960, it was upgraded to Xinjiang Art Institute. In 1962, in response to the central government’s eight-character policy of adjusting the national economy, it was renamed Xinjiang Art School. In 1987, with the approval of the former National Education Commission, the Xinjiang Art Institute was reestablished.
