Lan Huahua’s original name is Ji Yanling, a native of Linzhen, Yan’an County. He has been ingenious and handsome since he was a child. She fell in love with a local man and ate the forbidden fruit. In 1936, the Red Army liberated Linzhen, and the man enlisted in the army and went to fight. Lan Huahua's parents forced her to marry an old villain. The villain soon died in an accident, and her parents married her off to a rich man with a pockmarked face. Orchid was abused for many days and finally died of illness in 1942. 5 It should be said that Lan Huahua's deeds staged a living tragedy in this world. It revealed the tragic life fate of lower-class women in the old society, and reflected the reality that the old ethics harmed human nature and hindered people's free emotional life. In that era, events like this happened frequently. But people still have the mentality to pursue freedom and strive for happiness, so they inevitably have to put it into practical actions, trying to break through barriers and achieve transcendence. Such practical actions are often spontaneous, blind, and reckless, and may inevitably go astray and lead to tragedy. (I will discuss this phenomenon and understanding later.) Lan Huahua’s tragedy began to unfold from the time she was born. 7 "The green line and the blue line are all brilliant." This lyric contains a very strong folkloric meaning. China is a typical small-scale peasant economy, with men farming and women weaving, and they are self-sufficient. It is in this material life that the ideology of the Chinese people was born. Perhaps there were accidental factors, and what greeted Lan Huahua was indeed the reality of being a bitch under the Tsuna system, which destined her to a tragic fate. Please allow me to imagine this: Orchid flowers were born when her mother was spinning and weaving. The child's first impression of the habitat is the long cotton thread pulling up and down; the black shuttle moving left and right; this is where the weaving of life begins. Lan Huahua was born. In addition to having to blame the cultural country that caused her tragedy, another fault that cannot be ignored is that she "really loves people to death." Some people may ask: "Is there anything wrong with being beautiful?" Yes, it is indeed possible. In a specific historical period and cultural atmosphere, any aspect of human nature can be condemned. Lan Huahua's life trajectory is based on this "original sin". As they grow older, orchid flowers can participate in production work, and their crops are moved from home to the fields. "The field seedlings of Jade Millet are as high as the sorghum." One of the properties of labor is that the subject has qualities that are accepted by society. The implicit meaning here is that orchids not only look good, but are also good at working, and are definitely a good "family handle". From the perspective of the ideology that regards labor as beauty, this is simply a beauty. 8 Therefore, the society’s evaluation of orchids is: “A daughter from the Thirteenth Province, you can count orchids.” Such good talents are naturally rare “objects” in society, 9 so it is not surprising that matchmakers are overly sexually excited. . The arrangement of the wedding was so compact that there was probably a literary setting involved. Ignore this for now. What I want to focus on is the value identity and institutional tension reflected in many folkloric wedding ceremonies. Here, I want to focus on matchmakers. There is a traditional Chinese saying that there are six types of women who are untouchable in society, the so-called "three aunts and six women". They are sharp-tongued, make irresponsible remarks, run around in the streets, stir up trouble, cheat and deceive, causing harm to society. Matchmaker (generally refers to matchmaker, in fact) is this type of person. 10 I would also like to emphasize that the "three aunts and six women", as the transmitters of information, have done a lot of meticulous social communication work. 11 It is human nature to enjoy information. The activities of human beings creating history can be roughly regarded as the cause of engaging in information, and men, women, old and young are no exception. Unfortunately, in a short period of time, men have enjoyed too many social rights and women have not enjoyed enough, which has created a golden opportunity for the emergence of China's "three aunts and six wives". What makes us modern people sad is that these phenomena that appeared in specific historical periods actually represent a kind of institutional social distortion. 12 Moreover, due to the historical activities of matchmakers, stylized matchmaking customs and terms such as "a clear matchmaker is marrying" have emerged. This is a valuable folk custom force that cannot be ignored. There is a sentence in the lyrics, "I left my beloved brother behind and carried him into the Zhou family." If we don't have the background of the story, the impression will not be profound. In fact, there is extremely rich content hidden behind it. Looking at Xintianyou itself, a large number of tracks are included in this content. In a sense, folk songs are love songs, which has almost become common knowledge (of course, it would be too reckless to treat it this way). The same is true for Xintianyou.
The vast majority of love songs reflect the innocence of unmarried men and women (the "obscene songs" mentioned in the notes can be called "dirty love songs" of married men and women). Most of the irrational and neutral sublimation of human beings is stored in these "true expressions" "On the innocent men and women. I can also imagine that in the remote and steep mountains, Lan Huahua and her "loving brother" condensed into the emotional thread of Tian Miaozi during their labor, the pure connection between potato lumps, and the spiritual connection between sorghum ears. 13 Another thing that needs to be explained is that before Lan Huahua enters the "Zhou family's door", there is a farewell scene with brother Qing. The lyrics are unclear, but there are simply countless such tracks, and most of them are the essence of condensed history. The Chinese people are world-famous for their delicate emotions, and the most typical expression is sadness. 14 The most representative Xintianyou that reflects this theme should be "Walking to the West Exit". Xintianyou, a nine-song piece of heart-wrenching and heart-wrenching music, contains almost all the traditional Chinese people’s yin and yang synergy and “defamiliarization” psychology. From here, you can see the unique aesthetic "prism" of ancient China and the colorful rays of light placed under the sun. 15 "The orchid flower came out of the sedan chair, looking around and taking pictures." Strange people, strange things, Lan Huahua's life journey will finally drop its anchor here. "A big girl rides in a sedan chair—for the first time"! The anxiety, shyness, thirst and restlessness of newlyweds are hard to describe but can be imagined. In this messy mentality, there was one emotion that she couldn't let go of the most, and that was her love brother. "Looking at the Zhou family's monkey, it looks like a tomb." This is the most realistic blow. The feeling of lost love, conflicting characters, inability to let go, and regret all turned into the most vicious curse in the universe in an instant: "You are going to die, you die early, one day you die, the next day I am an orchid and gone." "The last two sentences of 16 can be written realistically, saying that Orchid Flower used an excuse to return to her parents' home and eloped to her lover's brother's house, expressing her heartfelt feelings, expressing her will, and expressing her determination; it can also be understood as fictional writing, that is, Lan Huahua imagined that she would carry it with her. I went to meet my brother in love with food to express my love. In fact, we know that her lover brother has already joined the army, so we understand that it is more practical to make up the story. 17 What I want to focus on here is the powerful courage inspired by the love between men and women. Whether Orchid Huahua only has this kind of consciousness, or it has turned into a practical action, it can show the fatal weakness of ethics exposed in the face of "the true expression of temperament." 18 This phenomenon is the most typical in China. One of the reasons is the constant lack of tension between the very mature ethical system and free human nature that existed in Chinese history. Of course, in a sense, Lan Huahua's search for her lover brother is essentially a "forbidden act." If she continues this behavior, it will be nothing more than another "obscene song" about "beating the guy". Putting aside the value factor, simply "revealing your true temperament" (or "free pursuit") in this way cannot be considered a long-term solution, and it will not make you feel at ease for yourself. It will ultimately have a tragic ending. The most ideal solution is to put forward a revolutionary program of freedom of marriage, pursue it unswervingly, and implement it faithfully. This had quite mature conditions in the reserve of historical power at that time, and in fact it finally merged into the torrent of the Agrarian Revolution led by the Communist Party of China. We know that Lan Huahua's lover enlisted in the army to fight, which in itself gives us a signal that the fate of Chinese women will open a new chapter. Looking back at "Orchid Flower", it happens to be at the turning point of great changes in history. The death of the orchid flower represents the end of old things and foretells the creation of new things. It can be said that "Orchid Flower" is the last tragedy of women in ethical marriages in Chinese history, and its existence value lies in this.
