Lei Yusheng, born in Chengdu, Sichuan in 1932, is a composer and music educator. When he was studying at Bashu Middle School in Chongqing in the late 1940s, he composed several anti-civil war and anti-hunger songs, which were sung among the students. In 1951, he was admitted to the Lu Xun Institute of Literature and Art, the predecessor of Shenyang Conservatory of Music, to study music. After graduating in 1953, he further studied in the postgraduate class of the composition department. In 1956, he stayed at the school to teach. In 1960, he was transferred to the Liaoning Opera House. Over the past few decades, he has composed twelve operas including "Qionghua" and "Song of the Strong" and more than 200 songs including "Senina the Black Child" and "Welcome Song". His works have distinctive artistic personality and strong national style.
The Gaohu and Guzheng trio "Spring is Coming" is Lei Yusheng's work in his youth. In 1956, he performed at the first national music week and was warmly welcomed. In 1957, he went to Moscow to participate in the folk instrumental music competition of the Sixth World Youth and Student Peace and Friendship Festival, and won a gold medal.
