It's Eiichiro Oda's long-cherished dream to create a story about pirates. When he was a child, he was always curious about why there were no cartoons with pirates as the theme. At most, he only knew the animation "Little Hero in the North Sea".

He thinks that boys should want to go to sea for treasure when they grow up to a certain age. Oda wanted to read pirates' cartoons since he was a child.
