It's Eiichiro Oda's long-cherished dream to create a story about pirates. When he was a child, he was always curious about why there were no cartoons with pirates as the theme. At most, he only knew the animation "Little Hero in the North Sea".
He thinks that boys should want to go to sea for treasure when they grow up to a certain age. Oda wanted to read pirates' cartoons since he was a child. At that time, he told himself that if he wanted to draw them himself, he would definitely draw pirates' stories. No matter whether the work can be sold or not, he made such a choice because he was psychologically prepared, simply because he wanted to see it himself.
When Eiichiro Oda was in the first year of junior high school, he drew the pirates cartoon for the first time. However, Oda's imagination about children's adventures was too rich to finish with a notebook. He realized that it was impossible to draw pirates' cartoons in the form of "one issue finished", so he decided to serialize pirates' cartoons in Youth JUMP.
in p>1997, Eiichiro Oda created the pirate cartoon "RomanceDawn", which was the prototype of the creation of "The King of Navigation", and the name was later used as the subtitle in the first sentence of "The King of Navigation". Of course, although the protagonists of the two cartoons are both called Luffy, their personalities are totally different and their plots are different.
However, RomanceDawn could not be published in Junior JUMP at first because of the number of pages, so he cut the content of RomanceDawn and published it in the journal and supplement of Junior JUMP in the form of "one issue".
because ODA had decided to take RomanceDawn as the prototype of Nautical King, he was also going to write another version of RomanceDawn in the form of Nautical King. With two pirates cartoons, Eiichiro Oda resigned as the assistant of Nobuhiro Watsuki's "The Rogue Mark" and began to serialize.
