In 1937, he went to the Shanxi-Chahar-Hebei Border Region to participate in the revolution. In 1945, he graduated from Yan'an Yilu Theater and Conservatory of Music. In the same year, she played the role of Xi'er in the premiere of the opera "The White-Haired Girl" and performed the Yangge opera "Brother and Sister Opening up Wasteland" and "Couple Literacy". Later he served as an actor in the Art Troupe of North China United University. His works include "Nanniwan", "Autumn Harvest", "Couple Literacy", "Northern Shaanxi Road Love", etc.

In April 1939, he joined the Northwest Field Service Corps and engaged in anti-Japanese propaganda work. In 1944, he returned to Yan'an with the group and studied in the Department of Drama and Music of Yan'an Lu Xun Art Institute. In April 1945, China's first opera "The White-Haired Girl" premiered in Yan'an. She played the heroine Xi'er and was a success. In addition, she also starred in the newly compiled Yang operas "Couple's Literacy" and "Brother and Sister Opening Up Wasteland", and often sang solo. After the victory of the Anti-Japanese War, she came to Zhangjiakou with Lu Xun Art Institute. Later, he performed with the North China United University Art Troupe in various parts of North China. After the founding of the People's Republic of China, he studied under Soviet expert Medvedev and Chinese singer Lin Junqing, and became an actor at the Central Experimental Opera House. In 1962, the Oriental Song and Dance Troupe was established, and Wang Kun was transferred from the Central Experimental Opera House to the Oriental Song and Dance Troupe as the director of the artistic committee. In 1965, she participated in the performance of the large-scale music and dance epic "The East is Red" and sang "The Peasant's Song". Wang Kun is currently the leader of the Oriental Song and Dance Ensemble.
Wang Kun is the first generation of Chinese new opera actors. In vocal music, she has a unique voice, high-pitched and resonant timbre, and rich practical experience in performing arts. She is good at absorbing nutrients from traditional singing art and mastering the singing style and techniques of Chinese folk songs. At the same time, she also absorbed her own vocal methods from European singing art, creating her unique singing style of enthusiasm, simplicity and strong local flavor.
