He Luting (1903~1999) composer and music educator. A native of Shaoyang, Hunan. He studied music at the art college of Changsha Yueyun School. During the Great Revolution, he participated in the Hunan Peasant Movement and the Guangzhou Uprising. In 1931, he entered the Shanghai National Music College and studied theory, composition, and piano as an elective under Huang. The piano music "Shepherd Boy Piccolo" and "Lullaby" composed in 1934 won the first prize and the honorary second prize respectively in the "Soliciting Piano Music with Chinese Flavor" competition held by Russian pianist and composer Zilpin. In the same year, he entered the film industry, joined the Songwriters Association, and provided soundtracks for left-wing progressive films such as "Children of the Storm", "Cross Street", and "Street Angel", among which the interludes such as "In Spring" and "Song Girl at the End of the World" were widely circulated at the time. During the Anti-Japanese War, he joined the Shanghai National Rescue Drama Troupe and later went to Chongqing to engage in music work. The songs he composed at this time, such as "Guerrilla Song", "Ken Chun Ni", and "On the Jialing River", all had a wide impact. In 1943, he went to Yan'an and prepared the establishment of the Central Orchestra. During the War of Liberation, he also created orchestral sketches "Sengidema", "Party", chorus, Yang opera and other works. After the founding of the People's Republic of China, he served as the president of the Shanghai Conservatory of Music and vice chairman of the Chinese Musicians Association. He continued to devote himself to music education and cultivated a large number of musical talents. In terms of creation, various vocal works and film music have also been published, and "Selected Music Essays of He Luting" has been published.
