Symphony, concerto, solo, quartet, opera. . . . .
The piano is like this. Apart from the organ, it is the rarest musical instrument in the world. Not only is it technically difficult, but it is also about your understanding and appreciation of all European music from Gothic to modern times. To appreciate classical music, you have to learn to appreciate it. Maybe you will understand what you don’t understand now. After a while, you will understand it. Anyway, as long as it is music, you have to listen. Pianist Barenboim once said : The reason why I changed from a pianist to a conductor is because when I was learning piano, my teacher exposed me to all kinds of music. Not only did the piano improve, but my conducting actually started from here. . . . (I don’t remember the general meaning very clearly)
The sense of music actually means listening more, talking more and singing more. . . .
