This is how I have accompanied my children during winter and summer vacations over the years (1)

? My 12-year-old son Niu Niu is a child with a highly sensitive personality. While his emotions are delicate and rich, his emotions are as numerous and turbulent as the ocean. In the early days of accompanying Niu Niu over the years, I experienced a lot of challenges, torture, and breakdowns. Although I have a master's degree in education from Hunan Normal University, before I started lifelong growth ten years ago, all the theories and methods could not be used when facing my own children's problems. At that time, I was confused every minute. I can feel helpless and collapsed, and feel deep self-blame. What is the problem for me, an education major? Why do children's problems always arouse deep frustration and internal self-attack? From then on, I embarked on an eight-year journey of professional learning and self-growth.

? For eight years, I sent my son to school, and then went to various home education platforms to study without interruption. While studying, I accompanied my son to upgrade and fight monsters in his study life. Only then did I become professional and calm now.

The topic I am going to share today is - how I have spent the winter and summer vacations with my children over the years.

Many parents may be afraid to spend the winter and summer vacations with their children. As soon as the children are on vacation, they look forward to when the children will return to the cage. But I especially like to accompany my children, and I cherish every day I spend with them from the bottom of my heart. Because I know that the time that parents can accompany and influence their children is very limited. Parents only have the opportunity to accompany and influence their children when their children are 12 years old, that is, before they reach puberty. After this validity period, parents will have fewer and fewer opportunities to chat with their children, let alone affecting their children. Therefore, I will especially cherish every winter and summer vacation, because such a long period of continuous time is the best period that I can give to and influence my children.

Before each holiday, I will make arrangements for strategies in advance. Based on the children’s psychological growth needs at this stage, I will guide and accompany them one after another to achieve goals and provide them step by step. So how do I give? In what ways can I let my children absorb it with pleasure and enjoyment? I have sorted out two of my most commonly used and most efficient methods to share with you.

The first is immersive learning:

For example, I will take my children to a concert to immerse them in the music and art scene. I particularly recommend the Changsha Concert Hall. They hold Baxi Children’s Concerts every holiday season, and there are some percussion, chorus and other concerts that are more suitable for primary school children to participate in impromptu participation. We have participated not only in live concerts, but also in rock music festivals such as Strawberry and Mango Music Festival where we were immersed in the atmosphere for a whole day. Of course, there are also aesthetic education and appreciation categories. I am not limited to any art form.

I will also take Niu Niu to museums and art exhibition halls, photography exhibition halls and art exhibitions, and we have even participated in art auctions. Changsha's resources are very rich and high-quality in this sector.

During the winter and summer vacations before the epidemic, we also participated in some large-scale art festivals at home and abroad, such as the Jingdezhen Ceramic Art Exhibition, Chiang Mai International Nature and Architecture Art Festival, etc.

I also take my children to visit major museums to understand the stories behind the cultural relics, to understand the characteristics of this era and the background of the era in which the cultural relics are located, and even participate in the on-site hand-imitation creation of some cultural relics. . We still have many utensils from the Han Dynasty and Shang Dynasty made by the children themselves in our home. When the children use these tools, they will naturally associate them with the background and characteristics of that era. In this kind of immersive learning, children will have a very deep experience, open up many deep inner links, and have very deep memories.

In short, I will seize every holiday and try my best to provide children with artistic education that we can participate in.
