As in previous years, the Beijing New Year Concert was held in a solemn atmosphere. But I always feel that the Beijing New Year Concert is visually dull and aurally thin - this may have something to do with the television broadcast. After all, I only saw it on TV - the style of the performances is not very clear either. The theme is not very clear either. Compared with the Vienna New Year's Concert, Beijing's New Year's Concert really pales in comparison.
If the New Year's Concert in Vienna is regarded as a feast, then the New Year's Concert in Beijing is like a KFC or McDonald's. I am not a fan of foreigners, I just think that Westerners do take such activities very seriously, and even naturally incorporate them into reality. They paid attention to maintaining the sanctity of elegant music, but also cleverly used commercial operations to decorate Vienna with beautiful notes. In terms of economic conditions, I think China already has this ability, because from some CCTV programs, it is not difficult to see that various large-scale performances are held with great pomp and splendor, but why is it the turn of high art to be like that that can only be dreamed of? Where's the little match girl who's roasting the goose!
I think this is a conceptual issue. Some people in China always make a distinction between elegant art and commercial operations, and even believe that once they are tainted with commercialism, they will be tainted. But little did you know that the white snow in Yangchun will melt if it encounters temperature changes. Although we can't stand the rampant commercialism in some popular performances, should a gentleman "stick to poverty"? The ivory tower is clean, but sometimes it is also a cage that imprisons art!
Also, I think Beijing’s New Year’s concert lacks obvious features, and it is even difficult to see the highlights of the entire performance. The Vienna New Year's Concert features the works of the Strauss family as the main theme. In fact, there is no shortage of excellent vocal music works in China, such as "Gada Merlin", "Butterfly Lovers", "White-Haired Girl", "Spring Festival Overture", etc. These works are either grand, festive, or tragic... they have national characteristics. Without losing the adaptability that complements Western music. If these are set as the main theme of the Beijing New Year Concert, I think it is worth exploring. At least it is more suitable for Chinese people's taste than KFC and McDonald's.
Then another thing is that the Beijing New Year Concert is not eye-catching enough. The annual Spring Festival Gala is always hyped up in advance, but it always disappoints. Of course we don’t want the New Year’s concert to be so sensational, but due publicity should also be done. The Vienna New Year's Concert was a huge success, and our domestic media such as CCTV also contributed to it, but why are we so harsh on our own? From Beijing's New Year's concert live lighting to sound equipment and broadcast hosting, I think CCTV has areas worth working on, because these problems cannot be solved by music groups.
