Anita Mui was born in Hong Kong on October 10, 1963. She began learning to sing when she was very young, and began singing in public at the age of 6. After going to school, she often went out to sing with her sister Mei Aifang in the evenings to earn money to support her family. In 1982, Anita Mui got the opportunity to make a splash in the entertainment industry. She won the championship with her song "Season of the Wind" in the first singing competition held by Hong Kong Radio and TV Station. In 1983, her musical talent was recognized again and she won another Asia Special Award at the Tokyo Music Festival. After becoming a rising star in the music industry in 1982, Anita Mui began to get involved in the film industry. In the same year, Leslie Cheung starred in "Accidental" directed by Chu Yuan. In 1984, Anita Mui began to conquer the audience with her acting skills. In "Fate" starring alongside Leslie Cheung and Maggie Cheung, her outstanding performance won her the Best Supporting Actress Award at the 4th Hong Kong Film Awards. In 1987, she starred in "Rouge Button", which made people in the film industry truly realize her acting talent. In 1996, she also had an outstanding performance in the film "Half Life" directed by Ann Hui and adapted from Zhang Ailing's novel "Love in a Fallen City". She won the Best Supporting Actress Award at both the 17th Hong Kong Film Awards and the 3rd Hong Kong Golden Bauhinia Awards. At this time, Anita Mui was no longer the same as when she debuted. With a wide range of acting career, she was already a rare and ever-changing actress. From literary films to comedies, to action films and gangster films, she has performed well. Among comedy films, "The Inquisitor" co-starred with Stephen Chow in 1992 can be regarded as a classic; among action films, "Drunken Master II" starring Jackie Chan and "The East" starring Maggie Cheung and others "The Three Heroes" are all pleasing works; and "A Better Tomorrow III: Sunset Song" with Chow Yun-fat in the gangster film is even more excellent. In the 2001 Hong Kong New Year film "Zhong Wuyan", she disguised herself as a man and played the role of King Qi Xuan, which made the audience laugh. In "Holiday", for which she was nominated for the Golden Horse Award for Best Actress, she played a middle-aged woman whose marriage was in crisis. All the changes in her seemed so casual and left no trace. Anita Mui's courage to change and innovate is indeed worthy of admiration.
