Lang Lang was born on June 14, 1982 in Shenyang, China. He started learning piano from his father at the age of 3, and studied with Professor Zhu Yafen at the age of 4. At the age of 5 and 7, he won the first place in the Shenyang Piano Competition for the second time in a row. Later, he studied under his mentor Professor Zhao Pingguo. At the age of 9, he won the first place in the National Xinghai Piano Competition, and at the age of 11, he won the first place in the 4th International Youth Piano Competition in Germany, and received the Outstanding Artistic Achievement Award. At the age of 13, he won first place (gold medal) in the 2nd Tchaikovsky International Young Musician Competition. In the same year, he was invited to cooperate with the newly formed National Symphony Orchestra of China and served as the piano soloist at the opening concert. At the age of 14, he was admitted to the famous Curtis Institute of Music in the United States and studied under the famous piano master Dean Grafman. Three months later, he signed a contract with the internationally renowned IMG performance management company and embarked on the path of becoming a professional performer. Two years later, he signed a contract with the world-famous German DG record company and became the most valued artist. Now Lang Lang*** has published 5 CDs and 1 DVD. In 2008, 2 CDs were published consecutively.
