Nie Er (1912~1935) composer. His original name was Nie Shouxin and his courtesy name was Ziyi. A native of Yuxi, Yunnan. He loved folk music since childhood and was able to play a variety of ethnic instruments. During the Great Revolution, he participated in the progressive student movement. In 1931, he was admitted to the "Ming Yue Song and Dance Troupe" in Shanghai as a violinist and studied composition with Li Jinhui. He later quit due to dissatisfaction with the troupe's policies. In 1933, he joined the Drama League Music Group and actively participated in left-wing music, drama, and film activities. Unfortunately, he drowned in Japan in 1935. In less than two years, he composed 37 songs, including film interludes, and 4 national instrumental ensembles including "Dance of the Golden Snake" and "Spring Dawn on the Green Lake". The work has both distinct national characteristics and a strong spirit of the times, paving the way for the development of proletarian revolutionary music in our country. The main songs include "Newspaper Selling Song", "Graduation Song", "Dock Workers' Song", "Mei Niang Song", "Village Girl Beyond the Great Wall", "Singing Girl Under the Iron Heel" and were designated after the founding of the People's Republic of China. "March of the Volunteers" as the national anthem, etc.
