Is it really difficult to teach yourself guitar?

First: Can you persist?

Some teachers receive ten students, but none of them sticks. I didn't think much about it when I was teaching, but now that I think about it, I really think these guys don't love music at all. You try your best to help them, but they only want to seek shortcuts. They are unwilling to practice basic skills every day, but always want to play good music. They are so lazy that they are outrageous. Even if there is a teacher, can you persevere without the supervision of a teacher?

Second: Do you have the ability to think?

In the early days, there were no guitar teaching materials in China, and there were no powerful teachers, so most people at that time were self-taught, but many guitar masters also emerged. Nowadays, you can’t choose from many guitar tutorials on the Internet. To be honest, these tutorials are enough for you to learn on your own. Thinking ability is the most important thing in learning. When playing guitar, we should not learn to think about why we do what we do. This kind of thinking will make your guitar more effective with half the effort. If you don't have such thinking ability, then you can only choose a teacher to help you think.

Third: How far do you want to go?

Some people just want to play a song, and they can show off. Some people want to write songs to express their sexuality. Some people want to make money by singing and treat it as a career. Some people would die without music. How deeply you think about music determines how far you can go. Do you think about these questions? I believe you won't. If you don't know how to answer this question, then you can only choose a teacher to answer it for you.

Fourth: Your musical breadth

Don’t think that playing and singing is all there is to the guitar. God knows there are so many things you can do with a guitar, and there are so many styles of music out there. A good teacher can really help you a lot. Jazz, blues, country, rock, classical, pop... Music is a very broad thing. The more you listen, the more understanding you will have. A good teacher can help you solve many problems that you would not be able to understand if you think about them yourself.

Fifth: Can you solve the bottleneck

Everyone of us will encounter bottlenecks when learning guitar. The first big horizontal press, the first confusion caused by the lack of music theory, the first frustration caused by technical defects, the first time you feel the limitations of your own musical expression... When learning guitar, you will encounter There is a lot of confusion, and your teachers have experienced this confusion, so they can tell you how to solve it. But it is very difficult to break through on your own. The bottleneck I understand is that you were too impatient and too fast before, and the bottleneck wants you to slow down. But this kind of slowness is unacceptable to you, and the teacher will let you accept it. If a person does not encounter bottlenecks, he will not make progress. If it was just you, could you slow down?

The sixth is very similar to the first: your passion

Learning guitar is your own business and has nothing to do with others or the teacher. If you love it, there will be many people around you who can help you learn guitar, and you will also be willing to find people who are better than you to learn guitar.

After doing the above 6 points, you can learn whatever you want
