The Javanese people have a long history and developed culture. In history, famous feudal dynasties such as Majapahit and Matalan were founded, leaving behind rich cultural heritage. After Islam was introduced to Indonesia, most Javanese people converted to Islam, but many people still maintained some beliefs in Hinduism and "animism." Most Javanese people live in rural areas and are engaged in growing rice, upland rice, corn, cereals and cash crops. Coastal residents are engaged in fishing. People living in cities are mainly people engaged in industrial and commercial activities, government civil servants and enterprise employees. Most Javanese families are monogamous small families, and most of the marriages between young men and women are free love. Javanese people like shadow puppetry, dance and music, and their cultural attainment is generally relatively high.

Javanese women wear simple sewn clothes on the upper body and beautiful long skirts called "shalong" on the lower body, made of kapok or chemical fiber; men wear light shirt-type tops and Trousers type gauze.
