For freshmen who have just entered college, how can they choose a club that suits them?

The back-to-school season is coming soon. Students who have just finished the college entrance examination are about to welcome their universities. Recruitment for clubs will begin soon. Many students will be confused about how to choose a club that suits them. Today I will share some suggestions with you based on my own experience. 1. Clarify the classification of societies

As we all know, there are many societies in universities. There are many types, and before making a choice, we need to have a simple understanding of the types of societies. Specifically, there are the following types:

Public welfare/organization type: such as Youth Volunteer Association, Environmental Protection Association, Love Club, Psychological Club, Yi Class, etc.

Hobbies: mainly various interests and hobbies. Including badminton association, basketball association, music association, photography association, skateboard association, dance association and so on.

Academic categories: including English Association, Postgraduate Entrance Examination Association, Entrepreneurship Association, ACM Programming Association, etc.

Functional departments (student unions): such as the college’s News Department, Propaganda Department, Information Technology Department, External Relations Department, Organization Department, etc.

Cultural and artistic societies: such as drama clubs, literary clubs, radio stations, etc.

Personally, I think that before registering, you need to have a preliminary understanding of each club. At least you need to know what types of clubs it is, so that it will be more convenient for you to join during the subsequent interview. 2. Clarify your interests and hobbies

After understanding the above categories, you need to make a choice. However, before choosing a club, you must first clarify your interests and hobbies. The club is a platform for self-expression and communication. Only by investing sincerity and enthusiasm can you gain more. Think back to the things you enjoyed as a child, or the new interests you discovered in college, and choosing clubs related to them will make you more motivated to get involved. 3. Make good choices and do not exceed three clubs.

You can sign up to join clubs in your freshman year, and there is no limit on the number. But the senior sister advises not to choose too many clubs. After all, each club has many different activities. Participating in activities requires a lot of time, and time is limited. Choosing too many will affect your studies, and you must balance your studies and after-school time. The senior sister has chosen two clubs. There will be two or three activities a week. In addition to classes and club activities, other school activities, study and sports also need to be taken into consideration. Therefore, it is recommended that you choose one to three, and no more than Three. 4. Consider personal development needs

Everyone has different growth needs. Some people want to improve their leadership skills, some want to practice teamwork skills, and some want to enrich their hobbies. Based on your personal needs, choose activities and projects in the club that can meet your development goals, so that you will be more motivated to devote yourself to them. What you can learn in different departments is also different. For example:

If you choose photography, you can become a photographer after graduation, and you can also team up with others to shoot Douyin short videos.

Choosing a speech and debate club can improve your expression skills, which is very helpful for future job interviews, cultivate your dialectical thinking, and even improve your professional qualities (such as lawyers, etc.)

Choose to host, improve your temperament, and be able to engage in the work of emcee or task arrangement in the future.

If you choose dance, piano, basketball, etc., you can work part-time as a teacher in an institution. 5. Understand the atmosphere and culture of the club

The atmosphere and culture of the club are crucial to your participation experience. Some societies have a positive and lively atmosphere, while others are more reserved and stable, and some even have a rigid atmosphere that makes it difficult for everyone to integrate well. Therefore, before making a choice, you can attend regular meetings and activities of the society or learn about the society from old members, understand the atmosphere and culture of the society in advance, and then decide whether to sign up or not. I once asked the class assistant many things about the culture of the previous club, and finally made a decision based on comprehensive reference. If you want to have a good time in the club, it is important to have reference information about the atmosphere and culture of the club. 6. Pay attention to the history and reputation of the association

The history and reputation of an association can reflect its organizational strength and influence.

Choosing an association with a certain history and good reputation can improve your social circle and gain more opportunities. Generally speaking, the greater the influence of the association, the more people you can contact and learn, but at the same time, you will have more responsibilities. However, don’t blindly pursue popularity and neglect your own interests. Maybe some emerging societies will bring you more room for innovation and development. 7. Try multiple clubs

If you are still hesitant about choosing a club, you can sign up for various clubs and participate in club interviews. In the process, you can also improve your expression skills and exercise yourself. It is a very good opportunity for college students to improve their communication skills. From my personal point of view, I didn’t know which club I wanted to go to when I was in college, so I signed up for interviews with five or six clubs. Generally speaking, interviews in clubs are relatively simple and mainly focus on the interview. It still depends on your interest and whether you have the intention to join the club, so I passed it in the end. However, considering the preciousness of time, only two societies were selected to enter, namely the Photography Association and the Propaganda Department. So, if you are still confused, try them all. You can choose to go or not go after you pass and get the offer. 8. Recommended clubs

Based on her own experience, the senior here recommends some popular clubs for your reference:

College Student Innovation and Entrepreneurship Association. It can greatly improve your ability to organize and plan large-scale competitions. You can participate in Internet/Three Innovation Cup/Challenge Cup competitions. It can also cultivate your business thinking, which is very helpful for finding a job in the future.

New Media Association. You can learn about the operation of new media and learn new media technical skills. And you can set up your own self-media account to enrich your resume and increase your employment competitiveness.

Youth Volunteers Association. You can add comprehensive test scores (linked to scholarships), broaden your network, and connect with counselors, teachers, etc., which is conducive to the cultivation of relationships and many opportunities.

English Club. In college, English is equally important. Joining an English club is conducive to long-term and sustained exposure to English. Not only is it helpful for college English exams and CET-4 or CET-6 exams, but it is also helpful for your future direction planning (you can take the English test abroad, become an English tutor, enter a foreign-funded enterprise), etc.

Student work clubs. This category mainly includes various departments of the student union, such as the Organization Department, Propaganda Department, News Department, etc. In these departments, you will be exposed to the work of the college, develop your work ability and organizational planning ability in advance, and accumulate work experience, which will be of great help for future job interviews.

From my personal experience, I once chose to join the Propaganda Department and Photography Association. In the Photography Association, you mainly learn photography knowledge and practice how to take photos. The activities of this club are relatively relaxed, and you can freely participate in activities according to your own situation. Compared with the Photography Association, the Propaganda Department tests and exercises personal abilities. In this process, I need to connect with people from different departments (to expand contacts and develop communication skills), and design promotional material production plans for school activities (to cultivate event planning ability), and can also manage the college’s official account (you can design the layout and theme of tweets according to your own aesthetic), which has well cultivated my ability in layout design. Overall, I gained a lot. Not only did I gain friendship from the department, I also improved my own abilities and developed my photography hobby. ?Finally

I hope that when you choose a club that suits you, you can stick to your original aspirations, work hard, and show your light on the stage of the club. Club life is not only an important part of enriching campus experience, but also an opportunity for growth and exercise. I hope everyone can find their own stage and sense of belonging in it. come on!
