The world’s first female percussion soloist Evelyn Granny said that from the beginning I decided not to let other people’s perspectives , blocked my passion to become a musician. Evelyn Granny grew up on a farm in northeast Scotland and began taking piano lessons at the age of eight. As she grew older, her passion for music grew.
Unfortunately, her hearing was gradually declining. Doctors concluded that this was due to nerve damage that was difficult to recover from, and concluded that she would be completely deaf by the age of twelve. However, her love for music did not stop. Her goal was to become a percussion soloist, although there were no such musicians at the time.
In order to play, she learned to listen to the music played by others in different ways. She played wearing only stockings so that she could feel the vibrations of each note through her body and imagination, taking in her entire sound world with almost all of her senses. In order to elevate her musical attainments to a higher level, she applied to the famous Royal Academy of Music in London.
Because no deaf student had ever applied before, but her performance conquered all the teachers, she successfully entered the Royal Academy of Music and won the academy's highest honor award when she graduated.
