Vietnamese traditional music has various forms and is rich in national characteristics. The more typical ones include Hue chants, chants, and minor tunes. National musical instruments include sheng, flute, gong, drum, erhu, etc.

Vietnam has a duxianqin, also known as the gourd fiddle, which is a unique national plucked instrument in Vietnam. The piano is rectangular, with a horizontal body and a hollow interior. There is a slender handle at the left end. The upper part of the handle hangs outwards and can be held and swinged back and forth. Pierce the lower end of the handle into a horizontal gourd, and cut off less than one-third of the gourd's belly laterally. One end of a string is fixed on the right end of the piano body, and the other end is fixed on the handle. When playing, the right hand plucks the strings, and the left hand strokes the handle to tighten and loosen it, so that the piano emits melodious and pleasant tunes. Its outstanding feature is that after plucking the strings and swinging the handle back and forth, it can produce a lingering and lasting effect, which is deeply loved by people.
